I have about 10 wildflower books and they ALL cover wildflowers that do not grow here, I stay confused and I hate looking through 200 pages of flowers, finding what I think I see, discovering it only grows in California after a rain lasting 12 days and in the month of October. Grrr. Even the "Wildflowers of Alabama" has 'and adjoining states' added and covers stuff from Arkansas to the coastal areas in Georgia and Florida and I just want something local.
So, the kids and I made this section for local-only spring wildflowers. I took every photo myself within a 50-mile radius of Huntsville, all were found on nature walks in the woods or along creeks, in ditches and pastures-so they grow here all on their own or are 'garden escapees' that have adapted well enough and long enough to be familiar sights.
We checked identification in at least 2 sources, but even so, it can be wrong. If you see a blatant error or know of another name the flower is called locally, do not hesitate to e-mail me. I want this section to be as accurate as possible.
