Providence Canyon State Park
Georgia

How to get there:
Route 1, Box 158
Lumpkin , GA 31815
Located just across the GA state line, near Eufaula, AL

What to expect:
$3 per car parking fee
Drive all the way back to the end of the road to the Interpretive Center and pick up a map.
Take the White Trail down into and back out of the canyon and follow the rim trail back to your car.
There are an additional 7 miles of backpacking trails.

We hiked the White Trail loop, it drops down in the canyon and out the far side, then comes back to the parking area next to the rim, giving ample opportunity for views from the many overlooks and passing 2 playgrounds and restrooms.
We had the GPS tracking our entire hike, it was barely 2 miles and certainly not 3 miles as the sign states.
It was also very easy walking with only a gradual climb out of the canyon, I would rate it easy with moderate spots.

I would NOT do this hike in the heat or after a heavy rain.  It would be insanely muddy if wet and though mostly under trees, it has enough exposure to make it some miserable if the weather was blazing.

The streambed was riddled with streaks of mica, which shone like gold, it was very pretty.

Iron ore rocks shelter the sandstone beneath, making tiny towers on many outcroppings.

Copperhead, Jake came within inches of stepping on this guy.  He was 3.5 feet long.  He was eager to move on, so we snapped a quick photo and let him.
