312 Esslinger Drive
Gurley, AL 35748
What to expect: Clean berries
and veggies grown in such a way that they are very easy to maneuver around and
the picking is easy.
Strawberries, tomatoes, watermelon, zucchini, beans, lettuce and more are grown hydroponically in rows of hydroponics units 5 levels high, each holding 20 plants. The space only covers an acre and a half, but planted traditionally, the fields would cover 22 acres. His system uses much less water than traditional farming, too.
Organically grown with a special mixture of nutrients, the berries and veggies are exceptionally sweet.
There is an on-site market where you can buy berries and veggies already picked or you can pick your own. There is a clean restroom and the entire facility is handicap accessible, including the picking. The owner, Jimmy Sparks, is very nice and loves what he does. If he is not too busy, he will happily take the time to explain the process.
This is an interesting and educational stop!
