Natural Bridge, Alabama
How to get there:
Take I-65 to the exit for Hwy 278 at Cullman. Head west all the way through
Double Springs. There will be signs on your right just after you reach Natural
Bridge (the town) and just before the park entrance.
What to expect:
Admission is $3 per adult and $2 per child. There are bathrooms and picnic tables
beside a nice little creek. The walk back to the natural bridge is about 200
yards and very easy to navigate. Once at the arch, you can sit and look at it,
take a loop trail around under it and continue on the trail for about a 1/4
mile stroll through the woods to a second smaller arch and a couple of waterfalls.
The trail doubles back on itself, following a creek back to the parking lot.
On the way to the bridge, keep an eye out for a small sign on the right for
'Indian Head' rock.
You can get a brochure at the small
gift shop that outlines a basic geological history of the area.
This would be an excellent trip to combine with a stop at Caney
Falls, which is about 20 miles away.
